Noo was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and raised in England. Noo attended King’s College London and Columbia University in New York and is an author and freelance journalist. Her first book, Looking for Transwonderland:Travels in Nigeria, was published by Granta in 2012.
In the same year, it was a Sunday Times Travel Book of the Year, nominated by the Financial Times as one of the best travel books and included as one of the 10 Best Contemporary Books on Africa by the Guardian. It was shortlisted for the Authors’ Club Dolman Travel Book of the Year Award in 2013 and published in France by Editions Hoëbeke. In 2015 it was published in Italy by 66th and 2nd and won the Albatros Travel Literature Prize in 2016.
Her next non-fiction travel narrative, Black Ghosts, was published by Canongate Books in 2023 and is shortlisted for the 2025 Edward Stanford Travel Book of the Year. Noo has contributed book reviews, travel, opinion and analysis articles for several newspapers and magazines including the Guardian, the Financial Times, the Times Literary Supplement and the New York Times. She has also written travel guides for Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. Noo is based in London.
