francesca was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She is a writer and artist. Her debut novel Butter Honey Pig Bread was published in 2020 and was awarded the Writers’ Trust Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ2S+ Emerging Writers in 2022. It was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award, the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction and the Amazon Canada First Novel Award. It was also longlisted for the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize and the 2021 Dublin Literary Award. In 2023 she co-authored Curious Sounds: A Dialogue in Three Movements, a collaborative experimental non-fiction book. Her short fiction, essays, and criticism have been published widely, including in Winter Tangerine Review, Brittle Paper, Transition Magazine, the Malahat Review, Visual Art News, Canadian Art, C-Mag and elsewhere. Her short story Ọrun is Heaven was longlisted for the 2019 Journey Prize, and An Immortal Woman was shortlisted for Yolk Magazine’s 2024 Montreal Fiction Prize.
